Summary of Position:

This opportunity is for those who are interested in professional careers in the financial services industry or marketing research. Incumbents will have opportunities to work with experienced researchers on a variety of primary and secondary research projects. In addition to gaining proficiency in the research process, the incumbent will gain a deep understanding of research and the services we provide to our industry members.

The candidate will be a supporting member of the research project team, and will assist the research project directors in the collection, analysis, and reporting of research data, as needed. The incumbent will also utilize a variety of analytical tools to help edit and analyze data, as well as assist with preparation of reports, presentations, and other deliverables to be shared with LIMRA's members. The incumbent may use appropriate analytical software as well as Microsoft Office products. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong analytical skills who wishes to pursue a future in marketing research or data analysis.

Essential Functions:

1. Assist on research projects

  • Assist project manager with planning and coordination of project activities.
  • Contribute as directed on different phases of project work, including: survey development, database development, data analysis, and write-ups.
  • Develop knowledge of research techniques, technologies, and analytics tools

2. Analysis of data

  • Assist project teams with data analysis, data visualization and analytic interpretation using a variety of data analysis tools.
  • Insure accuracy/reasonableness of data.
  • Thoroughly document analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for new analytic approaches.
  • Provide support for project directors, such as stat checking of reports and presentation materials.

3. Communicate research information

  • Collaborate with project directors on communication materials (reports, articles, presentations, etc.)
  • Develop materials such as graphics and charts.
  • Participate in meetings with members at meetings and conferences.

4. Customer Service

  • Respond to requests for information from internal and external sources.
  • Document interactions and include management on all external communications.

5. Professional Development

  • Develop industry knowledge and technical expertise
  • Read LIMRA materials and industry trade press
  • Attend industry meetings, as appropriate.
  • Maintain contact with industry professionals.
  • Maintain familiarity with statistical software (SAS, SPSS, Tableau)
  • Continually develop analytic skills (advanced analytics, machine learning, text analytics)

Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience
    • Undergraduate degree in social sciences or quantitative discipline required, graduate degree preferred.
    • At least 2 years of primary research experience required.
    • Experience in the financial services industry preferred.
  • Skills/Knowledge
    • Knowledge of the financial services industry that covers products, distribution systems, marketing and company operations
    • Knowledge of analytic techniques and analytic software (SAS or SPSS)
    • Excellent communication skills (writing, presenting, interpersonal)
    • Knowledge of primary research techniques (e.g., surveys, focus groups, interviews)

Travel:

  • Position requires occasional travel within the US and Canada
