Director of Conference Programming Summary
Description LIMRA, LOMA, and our parent organization, LL Global Inc., are an international research and education trad e association for the insurance, retirement, and financial services industries, serving the needs of more than 1,200 member companies across 64 countries.
We are looking for a successful and enthusiastic Director of Convening Programming to build programming and conference storytelling with varied stakeholders through narratives, emotions, industry insights and experiences to create a cohesive and immersive event journey through building programming to captivate and connect conference experience with attendees through convening strategies. The Director of Convening Programming balances a range of responsibilities, including strategic convenings, content production, and audience outreach and development: averaging 20-25 conferences and meetings annually.
About the Role: As the Director of Conference Programming, you will be at the forefront of designing and delivering cohesive conference storytelling journey. You’ll collaborate with diverse stakeholders to build programming that resonates with attendees, using narratives, emotions, and industry insights. You’ll play a key role in strategic session development, content production, and audience engagement across an average of 20-25 conferences and meetings annually.
Key Responsibilities: - Partner with stakeholders to understand each event’s objectives and goals. - Lead discovery sessions with Conference Leaders and Member Collaboration Groups to develop programming that aligns with event objectives and audience engagement strategies. - Collaborate with leadership to execute the overall conference programming strategy. - Support speaker procurement and research in partnership with event planners. - Oversee demand generation tactics for ticket sales, working with Marketing and Customer Service teams. - Provide regular updates on programming development, audience engagement, and budget management. - Track and manage expenses, ensuring alignment with the budget. - Establish and monitor programming metrics, conducting post-event analysis to continually improve impact. - Stay current on industry trends and topics to inform programming strategies. - Facilitate group sessions, workshops, and dialogues to enhance attendee engagement.
What We’re Looking For: - A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or equivalent experience. - Strong ability to write compelling scripts and session descriptions. - 7+ years of experience in building event strategies and programs. - Strong project management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders. - Ability to build trust and gain support from senior leadership. - A track record of meeting performance goals and managing budgets effectively. - Expertise in group facilitation and leading discovery sessions. - Experience managing conference speakers, talent, and AV production on-site. - Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills. - Ability to deliver the company’s mission and products through impactful programming. - Strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines. - A proactive and adaptable mindset, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. - Familiarity with hotel practices and the broader hospitality industry. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). - Willingness to travel within the US and Canada up to 30% of the time.
