Description

This opportunity is for those who are interested in professional careers in the financial services industry, specifically in the area of actuarial science. Incumbents will have opportunities to work with experienced researchers on several joint SOA/LIMRA studies projects.

The Incumbent will be a member of the research project team, and will assist the research project directors in the collection, analysis, and reporting of research data. The Incumbent will also utilize a variety of analytical tools to help collect, edit, analysis data. The Incumbent will assist with preparation of reports to be shared with LIMRA’s members.

The Incumbent will support the project requirements for data collection, editing, analysis, and reporting. The individual will also assist with developing tables and charts for reports. The Incumbent will use appropriate analytical software, specifically SAS and Tableau as necessary, as well as Microsoft Office products.

The candidate must have strong analytical skills, and a high degree of interpersonal skill to communicate with all levels of staff. In addition to gaining proficiency in the actuarial experience study process, the incumbent will gain an understanding of the research and the services we provide to our industry members. After completing this assignment, the incumbent will be conversant in process and methodology for completing an industry experience study.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Assists with collection of data from individual participating companies
  • Conducts initial review of data submitted
  • Writes and runs data validation programs to identify issues with data received
  • Follows up with participants to correct any data issues
  • Performs necessary edits to data and creates industry dataset
  • Writes and runs analysis programs
  • Produces tables and charts as needed for analysis and reporting phase of project
  • Documents work process and results

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree candidate with discipline in Actuarial Science, Math or Statistics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Proficiency is a programming language syntax (ex. SAS, SPSS, C, Visual Basic)
  • Two semesters of statistics or equivalent course work
  • One or more actuarial exams preferred
Required Competencies:
  • Excellent communication, planning, and coordination skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to grasp new concepts, learn and apply new programming languages, and communicate with companies participating in studies regarding data questions and clarifications
  • Strong attention to detail, logical/critical thinking and analysis skills are required
