Description

LIMRA and LOMA, the world’s largest international research and education association for the life insurance, retirement and financial services industry, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accounting Manager in the Finance Division. We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented individual who will be responsible for leading a team of Accounting professionals. This is a newly-created position who will report to the Chief Accounting Officer. This role can be located in either Atlanta, GA or Windsor, CT with a hybrid ‘Work for Your Day’ work arrangement.

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Accounting Manager is responsible for assisting the Chief Accounting Officer in the daily operations and supervision of staff; the development and monitoring of the monthly financial results compared to the corporate budget; providing financial information/financial reporting and support to business unit managers; and assisting with external audits. Leadership is essential to this position and the successful candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of proven leadership experience managing multiple Accounting professionals including a minimum of 10 years Accounting experience.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Supervises a team in connection with the daily operations of the finance unit including daily processing of deferred revenue, payroll and related accruals, incentive compensation, sales tax payables, prepaids, lease accounting, and post-retirement liabilities
  • Leads and develops staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
  • Tracks important due dates of both internal and external reporting and compliance
  • Directs staff in the proper handling of entries and exceptions and reviews these entries and exceptions
  • Completes and reviews monthly reconciliations of assigned staff
  • Prepares monthly financial statements and analysis of variances to plan for management review
  • Analyzes reports especially monthly financial statements, interpret findings, and present to management
  • Proactively collaborates with business units on monthly financial statements, budgets, and ad hoc inquiries
  • Supports budget and reforecast processes and data compilation/analysis
  • Development and maintenance of Management Information Reports
  • Assists in special projects and external filings as needed
  • Assists with external audits

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and minimum 10 years of Accounting experience
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills including a minimum of three to five years leading and managing multiple accounting professionals is required

 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including but not limited to decision-making with the ability to provide effective feedback, coaching, and mentoring to staff which assists with building high performing teams
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills; ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects
  • Strong knowledge of employee relationship building and performance management techniques
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, and able to effectively work independently as well as part of a team
  • Extremely detail oriented with teamwork skills and the ability to work across functional teams and all levels of the organization
  • Flexibility and ability to learn fast and respond to frequently changing business needs
  • Must enjoy working in a high-pressure environment with daily deadlines and ongoing time demands
  • Open and responsive to constructive feedback

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting is strongly preferred
  • Live within a commutable distance to Atlanta, GA or Windsor, CT office
